WHAT TO EXPECT

What to Expect From a Reiki Session

If you are considering a Reiki session, knowing what the experience will be like can make the decision feel much simpler. Personalized Remote Reiki Sessions with Diana Dodds are offered from a distance, typically last 45–60 minutes, and do not require previous Reiki experience or special preparation.

This page walks you through what happens before, during, and after your session so you can decide whether the experience feels right for you.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION

Preparation can be simple

You do not need to create a perfect environment or prepare yourself in a particular spiritual or energetic way before a Reiki session. The most useful preparation is simply making yourself reasonably comfortable.

Helpful

If possible, choose a comfortable place where you are less likely to be interrupted during the session. Your surroundings do not need to be silent, specially prepared, or different from your normal home environment.

Optional

You may bring an intention to the session if there is something you would like to hold in mind, but an intention is not required. If you would like help putting an intention into words, Diana can help you when you connect.

Music is also optional. You may rest quietly or listen to something calming if you prefer.

Not required

You do not need to:

  • have previous Reiki experience;
  • follow a particular spiritual belief;
  • arrive with a specific problem or goal;
  • meditate beforehand;
  • fast or follow a special diet;
  • drink a prescribed amount of water;
  • wear special clothing;
  • perform a cleansing practice or ritual.

There is nothing you have to do to make yourself “ready” for Reiki.

CONNECTING REMOTELY

How your session begins

First sessions

For a first session, Diana typically begins with a short conversation by Zoom or Google Meet. This gives you time to connect, ask questions, share any preferences, and discuss an intention if you would like to bring one.

Returning sessions

Returning sessions may use a simpler format. Diana may coordinate the beginning of the session with you by text rather than meeting by video beforehand.

You may share as much or as little about yourself as feels appropriate. You do not need to explain or disclose personal experiences in order to receive Reiki.

You are welcome to ask questions and communicate your preferences throughout the session.

DURING THE SESSION

Settle in in whatever way feels comfortable

Once the Reiki portion begins, there is very little you need to do.

Choose a comfortable position

You may sit, recline, or lie down, depending on what is most comfortable for you. There is no required posture.

Stay connected or rest privately

If your session begins on Zoom or Google Meet, you may stay connected on the call if that feels comfortable, or you may disconnect and rest privately during the Reiki portion. You do not need to remain on video.

You do not have to concentrate

There is no required meditation, visualization, breathing technique, or mental state. You can simply rest.

If thoughts come and go, that is fine. If your mind feels quiet, that is fine too.

It is okay to fall asleep

You do not need to stay awake or maintain a particular level of attention during the Reiki portion. If you fall asleep, there is nothing you need to correct or redo.

You remain in control

You may communicate a preference at any point and may ask to pause or end the session. The session should remain something you are choosing to participate in.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

What you may notice during a session

Your experience may be quiet, noticeable, or somewhere in between, and it can differ from one session to the next.

You might notice restfulness, thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, a quiet or reflective experience, or very little that feels unusual.

None of those experiences is required. You do not need to feel warmth, tingling, movement, emotion, or anything else for the session to have been a valid experience.

A quiet or uneventful session does not mean that you experienced Reiki incorrectly.

The sensations or experiences someone notices during a session are personal and subjective. Biofield Transformations does not use them as proof of healing, energy movement, blockage removal, or physiological change.

AFTER YOUR SESSION

Reconnect, reflect, and return to your day

There is no particular reaction you are expected to have after a Reiki session.

Reconnect

For new clients, Diana reconnects with you after the Reiki portion to talk about the session if you would like. Returning clients also have an opportunity to check in afterward. You do not need to have anything specific to report.

Reflect if you wish

Some people like to take a little time to notice how they feel or reflect on the experience. Others simply return to their normal day.

Neither approach is required. There is no need to search for a particular sensation, change, or meaning after the session.

One-week follow-up

Diana follows up approximately one week after your session and invites you to reflect on anything you may have noticed since your session.

The follow-up is an opportunity for reflection.
