Level 4 — Master-Teacher / Shihan is the fourth stage of the Biofield Transformations Usui Reiki certification pathway. Building on the advanced practitioner development of Shinpiden, this level prepares experienced practitioners for the responsibilities of teaching Reiki, mentoring students, assessing competency, and transmitting the curriculum and lineage practices with integrity.
Shinpiden certification and demonstrated teacher-readiness are required before progressing to Master-Teacher training.

Move From Advanced Practitioner to Responsible Teacher
The Master-Teacher stage is not simply an additional Reiki level or a title of spiritual status.
Within the Biofield Transformations pathway, Shihan training focuses on the responsibilities that come with teaching others: communicating Reiki accurately, presenting lineage and history responsibly, guiding practice, conducting attunements within the approved lineage method, assessing competency, mentoring students, and knowing when a student is—or is not yet—ready to progress.
The transition from practitioner to teacher also introduces different ethical responsibilities. Teacher/student power dynamics, boundaries, inclusion, credential integrity, cultural respect, and appropriate use of authority all become central to the work.
Master-Teacher authorization reflects demonstrated teaching, assessment, mentorship, and attunement competency—not title, seniority, or elapsed time alone.

Learn the lineage-specific student attunement procedures used within the Biofield Transformations training system, together with preparation, consent, integration, and appropriate boundaries.
Teaching Shoden, Okuden & Shinpiden
Develop the ability to teach the learning outcomes, practices, ethics, progression standards, and competency expectations appropriate to each preceding level.
Adult Learning & Facilitation
Learn practical teaching skills such as writing clear objectives, demonstrating practices, pacing theory and experience, checking understanding, giving feedback, and supporting different learning needs.

Practice Attunement Procedures Under Supervision
Students learn and demonstrate the required lineage attunement procedures under supervision before independent teacher authorization is considered.

Observed teaching, assessed lesson segments, attunement practice, student-assessment exercises, portfolio work, mentor feedback, and remediation where needed contribute to teacher readiness.
Teacher Readiness Is Developed Through Practice, Accountability and Stewardship
Teaching Reiki requires more than knowing the material.
A Master-Teacher must be able to explain practices clearly, model appropriate scope and ethics, assess students fairly, offer constructive feedback, recognize when additional development is needed, and preserve both the integrity and limitations of the curriculum.
Teacher development also requires continued personal practice. Stewardship, restraint, accuracy, accountability, ongoing personal practice, and respect for other lineages are part of the standard expected at Level 4.
Independent teacher authorization is governed by demonstrated competency—not title, course completion, or elapsed time alone.
Authorization Is Earned Through Demonstrated Competency
Completing Master-Teacher course material will be an important part of Level 4 training, but course completion alone will not authorize someone to teach or attune students independently.
Course completion makes you eligible for assessment. Demonstrated competency earns certification and teacher authorization.
Master-Teacher assessment is designed to consider teacher knowledge, practical teaching ability, attunement competency, student-assessment skill, ethical judgment, curriculum understanding, portfolio evidence, mentorship readiness, and final mentor authorization.
When the required standard has been demonstrated, the student earns Usui Reiki Master-Teacher / Shihan Certification and Authorization.
What Master-Teacher Authorization Represents
Master-Teacher / Shihan represents authorization within the Biofield Transformations pathway to responsibly teach, assess, mentor, and transmit the approved Usui Reiki curriculum.
Independent authorization follows successful supervised teaching and attunement practice. It is not granted simply because a student has completed lessons or held a practitioner credential for a certain period of time.
Training Grounded in Stewardship, Accuracy and Responsible Teaching
Biofield Transformations treats Reiki teaching as a responsibility to students, lineage, historical accuracy, ethical practice, and the integrity of the certification process.
Future teachers are expected to distinguish documented history from tradition, personal interpretation from evidence, and spiritual teaching from medical or scientific claims. They are also expected to model appropriate consent, scope, referral, professional boundaries, and responsible public communication.
Master-Teacher training does not encourage teachers to position themselves as gurus, medical authorities, or spiritually superior to their students. Teaching authority is bounded by demonstrated competency, ethical responsibility, and the actual scope of the curriculum.
Master-Teacher Is the Teaching and Transmission Stage of a Four-Level Path
Each level of the Biofield Transformations Usui Reiki pathway builds on the one before it. Advancement reflects demonstrated practice, competency, and readiness rather than simply completing content or waiting for a set amount of time.
Shoden — Establish

Level 4 follows demonstrated advanced-practitioner competency at Shinpiden. If you are new to the Biofield Transformations pathway, begin with Level 1 — Shoden and progress through each level as the required competencies are demonstrated.
